Philosophical enquiry is an apporach to robustly enrich the deep knowledge and deep understanding of students around big ideas. Buranda State School in Queensland is a trail blazer and Cambewarra and Quaama Public Schools in NSW are also developing PI approaches. I have included a link to a program on Buranda.

Footnotes

  1. The school has no classrooms or teachers, instead there are 'learning areas' and 'learning area adults', and the children have a direct say in what they study in their particular areas of interest.
  2. One of the most popular Encounter programs ever is re-presented to remind us that philosophical inquiry in schools is gaining momentum here and overseas. We go to Buranda State School in Brisbane and join a class of 8 to 10 year olds to hear how philosophical inquiry works and what occurs when 26 children reason and think together about the big questions of life.
